Pittsburgh, July 1, 2000 -- The Brain Tumor Center has announced a new clinical treatment trial for adult patients with recurrent or progressive glioblastomas. This trial tests the efficacy of two oral medicines, temodar and thalidomide, in combination.
Temodar was recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration for treatment of anaplastic brain tumors. Thalidomide is a medicine that appears to reduce blood vessel growth (angiogenesis) into tumors. This study is sponsored by the North American Brain Tumor Consortium and National Cancer Institute.
