Pittsburgh, March 27, 2001 -- Neuro-oncologists at the Brain Tumor Center and the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute are participating in a national trial of STI-571 for recurrent malignant gliomas and meningiomas. STI-571 has recently garnered attention for its ability to induce remissions in patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia.
This oral medication will be evaluated in a study to identify the tolerability and effectiveness in recurrent brain tumors. This study is being conducted through the North American Brain Tumor Consortium.
