Lecture Marks Dr. A. Leland Albright Appointment as Children's Neurosurgery Chair

Pittsburgh, March 14, 2002 -- The University of Pittsburgh Office of the Provost sponsored a lecture March 14 to inaugurate the endowed Children's Neurosurgery Chair in honor of Dr. A. Leland Albright, professor of neurosurgery and chief of neurosurgery at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Albright is a nationally renowned expert in the treatment of neurological disorders in children. Throughout his 30-year career in pediatric neurosurgery, his contributions in both research and treatment have meant the difference between life in a wheelchair and the ability to walk for many of his patients.

Dr. Albright's primary area of expertise is treating children with movement disorders and spasticity, specifically the involuntary tightness of certain muscles caused by cerebral palsy and severe brain injuries. In 1996, he established the multi-disciplinary Spasticity and Movement Disorders Clinic, one of the leading clinics of its type in the world.

Dr. Albright presented a lecture titled "Neurosurgery and Cerebral Palsy in the 20th Century: Knives, Needles and Neurotransmitters," in Wesley H. Posvar Hall. A reception followed.
