Pittsburgh, March 13, 2002 -- Peter Gerszten, MD, assistant professor of neurosurgery, was awarded the 2002 Volker Sonntag Award from the Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves of the AANS/CNS for $30,000 for his study "Evaluation of the CyberKnife® Stereotactic Radiosurgery System for the Treatment of Spinal Lesions."

Dr. Gerszten works closely with William Welch, MD, in the department's Neurological Spine Services Division and directs the department's stereotactic spine radiosurgery program, overseeing the CyberKnife program.
