Pittsburgh, December 18, 2002 -- William Welch, MD, director of the Spine Services Division at the University of Pittsburgh, was a special guest of the Peoples Number Three Hospital in Wuxi, China this past November. The hospital invited him to perform and demonstrate two surgeries -- a kyphoplasty and an anterior cervical discectomy with instrumented fusion using a bioresorbable plate. Both surgeries were "firsts" for this region. Guests from around China were invited to observe Dr. Welch perform these procedures. Dr. Welch also delivered two lectures at the Wuxi/Shanghai Spine Conference during his visit.
