Pittsburgh, May 7, 2003 -- Peter W. Carmel, MD, chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) spoke on "Chiari Malformation," Wednesday, May 7 as part of the department's Wednesday afternoon conferences.
Dr. Carmel is an internationally renowned pediatric neurosurgeon. He has published frequently on brain tumors and congenital malformations in both children and adults. Dr. Carmel's research focuses on childhood brain tumors, congenital anomalies of the nervous system, and the structure and function of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis. This research has resulted in nearly 80 scientific articles and 25 books and chapters. He has lectured extensively on neurological surgery throughout the United States and abroad, including France, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Scandinavia, Russia and Mexico.
