Pittsburgh, March 17, 2003 -- Joseph T. King, Jr., MD, assistant professor of neurological surgery, was awarded the Volker Sonntag Award from the Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves of the AANS/CNS for $30,000 for his study "Thoracic and Lumbar Compression Fracture Treatment with Kyphoplasty and Vertebroplasty (TALCOM)."

Peter Gerszten, MD, a co-investigator in the study, received the award in 2002 for his evaluation of the CyberKnife® in the treatment of spinal lesions.
