Pittsburgh, February 16, 2010 -- Joseph Maroon, MD, clinical professor and Heindl Scholar in Neurosciences, appeared on the KDKA-TV Evening News, February 15, discussing Resveratrol, a natural substance that may help lead to a healthier and longer life.
In 2008, Dr. Maroon authored a book, The Longevity Factor, that takes a look at recent scientific breakthroughs identifying a group of natural substances -- including the much-publicized molecule Resveratrol -- that can activate a specific set of genes in humans, helping promote a longer, healthier life.
In the book, Dr. Maroon explains that the only thing scientists know will increase longevity is an extremely low-calorie diet. "That's very hard and difficult to do," he stated in the interview." The major benefit from Resveratrol, he went on to point out, is that it "simulates the same physiological affects that you get when you calorie restrict. In other words you can eat your cake and have it to."
