Hamilton Named Pitt Leadership Award Winner

Kojo Hamilton, MD, professor of neurological surgery at the University of Pittsburgh and director of UPMC’s neurological spine services, has been named the 2024 recipient of the university’s Larry E. Davis Excellence in Leadership Award, one of a series of awards given annually honoring Black faculty members for their outstanding achievements, contributions and leadership.

Named after the late Larry E. Davis who served as dean of Pitt’s School of Social Work from 2001-18 and founding director of the Center on Race and Social Problems, the initiative is part of Pitt’s Office of the Provost commitment to bolstering faculty diversity and development.

Dr. Hamilton is a recognized leader in scoliosis, adult spinal deformity and trauma. As director of the University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurological Surgery residency training program and co-director of the department’s spine fellowship program, he is also recognized for his strong commitment to neurological surgery education and mentoring.

Award recipients will be recognized at the Larry E. Davis Black Excellence in the Academy (BEA) Award Dinner scheduled for November 7 at the Heinz History Center.
